Epidural Steroid Injections

What Should I Do to Prepare for the Injection?

You should not eat anything after midnight the night before your injection.

You may have a clear liquid breakfast (coffee, tea, and water).  This must be at least two hours before your injection.

You may be asked to stop your pain medication at least four hours before your epidural injection.

The person that schedules the injection for you will let you know of any additional preparations.

Do I Have Any Restrictions?

You should not drive for 24 hours following the injection.  For this reason, you will need to make arrangements for a ride home.

Rest most of the day that you have the injection.  After that you may return to your normal activities.

How Do I Schedule My Epidural Steroid Appointment?

The Block Center will call you regarding your appointment times.  The consultation appointment and the epidural injection appointment may be scheduled on two different days.

If you have any questions or problems following the epidural injection, you should call the Block Center where the injection was performed.

When Do I Need to Come Back?

The anesthesiologist will advise you when to return to our office after your epidural injection(s).

You should follow-up in our office about two weeks after your final epidural steroid injection. Please call to schedule this appointment
